Back and Shoulder Pain Relief at Home: Simple Daily Tips
Back and shoulder pain has become one of the most common complaints today. Long hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, lifting heavy bags or sleeping in the wrong position can all leave muscles and joints stiff and sore.
Common causes
- Poor posture while sitting or using a phone
- Sitting for long hours without breaks
- Lifting heavy objects the wrong way
- Muscle strain from exercise or housework
- Age-related joint stiffness
Home tips that help
1. Fix your posture
Keep your screen at eye level, feet flat on the floor and shoulders relaxed. Take a short walk every 30–45 minutes.
2. Gentle stretches
Shoulder rolls, neck tilts, cat–cow and child's pose are simple stretches that relax tight muscles. Move slowly and stop if any stretch causes sharp pain.
3. Warm compress
A warm towel or hot water bag for 10–15 minutes can relax stiff muscles before a massage.
4. Ayurvedic oil massage
Massaging the back and shoulders with a herbal oil such as Dr. Joint Guard Oil helps you relax tight areas. Apply twice daily and massage gently until absorbed. Ask a family member to help with hard-to-reach areas of the back.
5. Sleep well
Use a pillow that keeps your neck in line with your spine, and avoid sleeping on your stomach.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor if pain spreads down the arms or legs, comes with numbness or weakness, follows an injury, or does not improve after a few weeks.
