Elbow and Wrist Pain: Causes, Home Care and Simple Exercises

We use our elbows and wrists hundreds of times a day – typing, scrolling, cooking, lifting bags or playing sport. Repeating the same movement for long periods can leave these small joints and the muscles around them sore and stiff.
Common causes
- Repetitive strain from typing, using a mouse or long hours on the phone
- "Tennis elbow" and "golfer's elbow" – overuse of the forearm muscles, common in sport, carpentry, cooking and housework
- Carrying heavy bags with a bent wrist
- Sleeping with the wrist bent under the pillow
- Age-related stiffness of the small joints
Home care that helps
- Rest the movement, not the whole arm. Reduce the task that triggers pain and take short breaks every 30 minutes.
- Fix your setup. Keep wrists straight while typing and the mouse close to your body.
- Use a cold pack for fresh pain (10 minutes, wrapped in cloth) and a warm compress for long-standing stiffness.
- Massage gently. Massage a little Dr. Joint Guard Oil into the forearm, around the elbow and over the wrist for 3–5 minutes, twice a day. Avoid pressing hard on a painful spot.
Simple exercises
- Wrist circles: slowly circle both wrists 10 times each way.
- Prayer stretch: press palms together in front of your chest and lower them slowly until you feel a gentle stretch; hold 15 seconds.
- Forearm stretch: arm straight in front, palm down, gently bend the wrist down with the other hand; hold 15 seconds.
- Squeeze ball: gently squeeze a soft ball 10 times to build grip strength.
